For a homeowner who loves to bake, a dream kitchen should be designed around the way you create, gather, and live.
That vision inspired this Watson Street kitchen remodel. What was once a dining room was completely gutted and transformed into a warm, highly functional kitchen filled with custom details, including a one-of-a-kind baking station.
An avid baker, the homeowner wanted a dedicated workspace that would make baking easier and more enjoyable. An angled bay window offered the perfect location, but its step-down design and unique geometry made standard cabinetry a challenge. With Rosewood’s in-house custom cabinetry, the baking station was designed and fabricated specifically to fit the space. The result feels seamless and intentional, as though it always belonged.
Function was just as important as appearance. A pop-up mixer shelf keeps the homeowner’s heavy stand mixer within easy reach when it is time to bake, then tucks it away when it is not in use. Spice and cutlery drawer inserts, pull-out shelves, the mixer shelf, and a rolling library ladder maximize storage and accessibility throughout the kitchen. A 3-centimeter Negresco Leathered Quartzite countertop, sourced from Brazil, provides contrast to the honed Olympian white Danby marble on the baking station. The generous work surface provides ample room for rolling dough, decorating, mixing, and everything else that goes into the homeowner’s favorite pastime.
The cabinetry and finishes bring warmth and character to the space. Green Atlas arched tile creates a striking backsplash against the rich wood tones, while the cabinets feature Albany Shaker styling, beaded inset construction, and flat-front top drawers inspired by antique furniture. Alder with Harvest Gold, mahogany with Nutmeg, and cherry with English Toffee and Brown Glaze create layers of warm, natural color throughout the kitchen.
Unlacquered brass reinforces the traditional influence, from Massey knobs and drawer pulls to Vernon bin pulls, knob backplates, and the cabinet guard at the trash bins. A Victorian bridge faucet with a coordinating sprayer and air switch adds another vintage-inspired detail while complementing the cabinetry.
The result is a kitchen that feels distinctly personal to the homeowner while honoring the character of the home. Every detail, from the custom baking station to the thoughtfully integrated storage, was designed around the way the space would actually be used, creating a level of function, fit, and character that an off-the-shelf solution could never provide.
